It started on the road — moving from village to village, walking through coffee farms, and learning from farmers directly. Our first major task was collaborating with the international IDH survey, conducted with Sattva Consultancy, Bangalore. On 16th November, we had an orientation session at the Deepthigiri Dairy Milk Society, led by the project coordinator of Sattva Pragathi along with team members Aabita and Debraj.  Their guidance made the first day smooth and insightful.   Along wi th us were the MSW students — Benhar, Unais, Gauri Nandana, M...

Welcome to Chapter 5: The Story of Baba Budan

'' The Man Behind Indian's Coffee Culture: Baba Budan''

Before we dive into the world of Indian coffee, let's get to know the man behind it all - Baba Budan. He's the one who introduced coffee to India and paved the way for the rich coffee culture we enjoy today.

In this chapter, we'll explore the fascinating story of Baba Budan, a Sufi saint who traveled to Mecca, discovered coffee, and brought it back to India. His determination and love for coffee changed the course of Indian history, and we're excited to share his story with you.

Let's embark on this journey and discover the legend of Baba Budan!

                                The Story begins....

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there lived a kind and wise man named Baba Budan.

He was a Sufi saint who loved traveling and meeting new people.

One day, Baba Budan went on a long journey to a place called Mecca.

There, he discovered a special drink called coffee. He loved it so much that he wanted to share it with his friends and family back home in India.

But, there was a problem! Nobody was allowed to take coffee seeds out of Mecca.

Baba Budan was determined to find a way. He cleverly hid seven coffee seeds in his beard and brought them back to India.

When he returned home, he planted the seeds in the hills of Karnataka. With love and care, the seeds grew into beautiful coffee plants. And that's how coffee came to India!

Baba Budan's love and determination brought joy and happiness to many people. Even today, we enjoy drinking coffee, thanks to Baba Budan's bravery and kindness.
