It started on the road — moving from village to village, walking through coffee farms, and learning from farmers directly. Our first major task was collaborating with the international IDH survey, conducted with Sattva Consultancy, Bangalore. On 16th November, we had an orientation session at the Deepthigiri Dairy Milk Society, led by the project coordinator of Sattva Pragathi along with team members Aabita and Debraj.  Their guidance made the first day smooth and insightful.   Along wi th us were the MSW students — Benhar, Unais, Gauri Nandana, M...

'' A Cup Of History''

From Ethiopia to Everywhere: The Coffee Journey Begins

In the rolling hills of Ethiopia, where the sun shone bright and the air was sweet with the scent of blooming flowers, there lived a young goatherd named Kaldi. Kaldi loved his goats and took great care of them, watching them graze on the lush green grass.

  A Curious Discovery

One day, while Kaldi was out with his goats, he noticed that they were acting strangely. They were jumping and dancing around, full of energy! Kaldi wondered what was causing this sudden burst of activity. As he watched, he saw that the goats were eating some bright red berries from a special plant.

The Magic of the Berries

Kaldi was curious, so he decided to try the berries himself. As soon as he ate them, he felt a strange and wonderful sensation. He felt more alert, more energetic, and more alive! Kaldi couldn't believe it – the berries were magical!

Sharing the Magic

Kaldi rushed to the local monastery to share his amazing discovery with the monks. The monks were intrigued by the berries and decided to try them out. They soon discovered that the berries had a remarkable effect – they helped them stay awake and focused during their long hours of prayer and study.

The Birth of Coffee

The monks experimented with the berries, drying, roasting, and grinding them into a fine powder. They then brewed the powder in hot water, creating a delicious and invigorating drink. And so, coffee was born!

A World of Wonder

From the monasteries of Ethiopia, coffee spread to the world, bringing people together and fueling their passions. And Kaldi, the curious goatherd, was hailed as the discoverer of this magical drink.
